The PEBC Teacher Residency program prepares people to have exceptional teaching careers through a hands-on licensure program. PEBC offers two pathways into the profession that support learning and rigorous preparation for the field. Discover which pathway is right for you.

Teacher Residency Pathway
Teacher Residents gain support from PEBC coaches as they work side-by-side with a mentor teacher in the classroom.
No prior teaching experience

Must hold a bachelor’s degree
Available statewide
Work alongside a mentor teacher
in the classroom
Consistent feedback through field coaching
One year to program completion

Teacher of Record Pathway
Teachers of Record are supported by PEBC mentors and coaches as they serve as the sole teacher in the classroom.
Must have significant experience working with students in an educational setting
Must hold a bachelor’s degree
Available statewide
Serve as the sole teacher in the classroom with support from a mentor teacher in the building
Consistent feedback through field coaching
One year to program completion
Hired and paid by school district
Option to pursue Master’s degree
Earn Teacher’s License
Access to 5 years of professional development from PEBC
Pursue Teacher Residency in Service
PEBC is excited to offer current or former AmeriCorps members the opportunity to continue their service in the classroom and train with PEBC to become a licensed teacher in Colorado.

Timelines
Teacher Residents and Teachers Of Record are fully supported by PEBC staff and mentors during the year long program.
After spending one year in the classroom and completing licensure coursework, Teacher Residents and Teachers of Record are eligible to apply for their Initial Colorado Teacher’s License and will begin receiving differentiated post-residency support from our field coaches.

Teacher Residency Timeline
Teacher Residents gain support from PEBC coaches as they work side-by-side with a mentor teacher in the classroom.
Step 1: Candidate applies to applicable geographic cohort as a Traditional Resident
Step 2: Candidate is eligible for a free month of free Praxis Exam tutoring if a licensure exam is required
Step 3: Candidates engages in the admissions and selection process
Step 4: Candidate is accepted into the PEBC Teacher Residency
Step 5: Newly accepted Resident is matched with a mentor through PEBC's mutual mentor matching process
Step 6: Resident participates in a Summer Institute during the month of July to gain foundational, culturally responsive skills
Step 7: Resident teaches alongside mentor teacher for one school year receiving additional feedback from PEBC Manager of Resident Development
Step 8: PEBC supports resident in their initial job search through mock interviews, coaching and resume and cover letter feedback
Step 9: Resident obtains an Initial Professional Teaching License

Teacher of Record Timeline
Teachers of Record are supported by PEBC mentors and coaches as they serve as the sole teacher in the classroom.
Step 1: Candidate applies to applicable geographic cohort as a Teacher of Record and selects a 1 or 2-year licensure pathway
Step 2: Candidate is eligible for a free month of free Praxis Exam tutoring if a licensure exam is required
Step 3: Candidate engages in the admissions and selection process
Step 4: Candidate is accepted into the PEBC Teacher Residency as a Teacher of Record
Step 5: Teacher of Record seeks out and secures employment as a lead teacher in their content area at a school within one of PEBC's four geographic areas. *This step can be completed concurrently with steps 1-4.
Step 6: PEBC works with school where Teacher of Record has been hired to identify a mentor in the building
Step 7: Teacher of Record participates in a Summer Institute during the month of July to gain foundational, culturally responsive skills
Step 8: Teacher of Record teaches under a 1 or 2 year alternative teaching license while receiving professional licensure coaching and coursework through PEBC
Step 9: Teacher of Record receives an Initial Professional Teaching License at the end of their 1 or 2-year program
