Thinking Strategies Institute (Spring)

Develop the thinking strategies that promote understanding!

Learning is a complex intellectual activity.  It is the thinking strategies that enable learners to make sense of complex texts, academic standards, and content. In this institute, educators will learn how to explicitly teach, support, and plan for deeper thinking with the thinking strategies within in the context of instructional best practices.

You’ll visit PEBC Lab Classrooms where teachers and students use thinking strategies on a regular basis.

We’ll explore ways to promote deep learning  by fostering engagement and understanding, and how the workshop model, rich student discourse, and thinking oriented classroom communities provide time for teacher modeling, student practice and self-reflection.

Thinking to learn, and learning to think!

PEBC Lab Classroom

See excellent instruction in action.

In each PEBC Lab classroom, participants will spend the morning observing the instruction and learning taking place in that classroom. With the lab classroom host and a PEBC staff developer, participants will spend the afternoon debriefing their observation reading professional literature, and reflecting on the implications for their own classroom practice.

NEW Leadership Lab!
If you are a school or district leader, we now offer an option to spend the second Lab Classroom day in a Leadership Lab. You will spend the morning in a lab classroom at a school that has developed systemic practices across grade levels and has nurtured three lab classrooms over the last several years. You will learn with other leaders how to initiate, support, and sustain quality instruction in all classrooms.

Two days in a PEBC lab classroom are included as part of the institute.
