Minds on Math Institute (Spring)

Become the math teacher your always wanted to be!

In this institute you will learn how to address all eight of the common core standards for mathematical practice within math workshop model instruction.

We will explore how explicit thinking strategy instruction can promote students’ deep mathematical understanding.  Additionally we will discuss and model how to facilitate classroom discussions that support all learners, preparing them with the problem-solving skills they need to make meaning of math, succeed on standardized assessments, and face life’s many mathematical challenges.

Add a PEBC Lab Classroom Day on March 8!

See excellent math instruction in action.

In each PEBC Lab classroom, participants will spend the morning observing the instruction and learning taking place in that classroom. With the lab classroom host and a PEBC staff developer, participants will spend the afternoon debriefing their observation reading professional literature, and reflecting on the implications for their own classroom practice.

Wendy Ward Hoffer, M.A.
PEBC Director of Education

Hoffer works with math and science teachers at all levels to promote student thinking and understanding in their content areas. She travels both across Colorado and nationally to facilitate professional learning and coach teachers interested in elevating their STEM pedagogy. Hoffer is the author of Science as Thinking (Heinemann, 2009), Minds on Mathematics (Heinemann, 2012), and Developing Literate Mathematicians (National Council of Teachers of Mathematics, 2016), and Cultivating STEM Identities (Heinemann, 2016).

Moker Klaus-Quinlan, M.A.
Associate Director

Klaus-Quinlan joined PEBC in 2003, and works with K-12 educators across the content areas, in Colorado and nationally. She supports teachers, teams, schools, and districts through coaching, facilitation, and leading professional learning. She co-facilitates the Math Institute, Foundations of Numeracy Institute, and Effective Mentoring Institute. She has worked extensively with the Boettcher Teacher Residency program as an adjunct professor, clinical supervisor, and coordinator during the expansion to Colorado’s rural San Luis Valley.

Registration fees for professional development events cancelled or rescheduled by PEBC, for reasons other than weather or acts of God, are fully refundable. Seat(s) cancelled by registrant with less than 60 days notice from the start date of the professional development event are not refundable. Registrant is responsible for 50% of the registration fee for any seat(s) cancelled with more than 60 days notice from the start date of the professional development event. Unused seat(s) (no-shows) will be considered a cancellation by the registrant and are non-refundable.
