In this institute you will learn to create engaging, inquiry-based learning experiences that generate interest in and understanding of the big ideas of science. We’ll explore how to design learning experiences that integrate the Next Generation Science Standards’ Science & Engineering Practices, along with thinking strategies, in order to increase student engagement and deepen understanding.
 
Learning Objectives:
  • Explore how the Next Generation Science Standards Science & Engineering Practices can be seamlessly addressed within inquiry-based instruction
  • Investigate how to facilitate classroom discourse that develops rich questions and deep thinking
  • Experience the symbiotic relationship between literacy instruction and conceptual understanding in science
  • Develop skills for differentiating and engaging all learners in purposeful and meaningful work as independent thinkers and scientists
  • Learn to foster student independence with explicit thinking strategy instruction
  • Set learning goals and explore backwards planning as a strategy for designing engaging projects that catalyze students' thinking and understanding as scientists
